| 10.23.09 : Kahne to Start 26th in Martinsville This Sunday : Qualifying Results for the TUMS Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Va. - Kasey Kahne and the No. 9 Budweiser Dodge Team will start the TUMS Fast Relief 500 from the 26th position this Sunday.
- Kahne was the 11th driver to participate in NASCAR Sprint Cup qualifying, turning in a qualifying time of 19.855 seconds and a speed of 95.371 mph.
- Rain delayed the start of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice by one hour on Friday afternoon. The long delay resulted in a shortened practice for teams.
- The No. 9 Budweiser Dodge Team finished Friday’s only Sprint Cup Series practice session in 11th with his fastest lap being a time of 19.790 seconds and a speed of 95.685 mph.
- Rain is scheduled to hang around the Martinsville, Va. area throughout most of Saturday afternoon. As a result, the No. 9 Budweiser Team spent the majority of practice on Friday working on race trim in an effort to be ready for Sunday’s race.
- Kahne said the following about Friday’s practice: “We had a pretty good practice. We spent a lot of time in race trim because there is a good chance of rain tomorrow and we wanted to make sure that we spent some time there. We tried some things and made some gains, I think that we have a good starting point for Sunday if we don’t get to practice on Saturday and if we do, we’ll get to work on the overall balance of our Budweiser Dodge.”
- Ryan Newman secured the top starting spot with his qualifying lap time of 19.563 seconds and a speed of 96.795 mph.
- The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams will participate in two practice sessions on Saturday in preparation for Sunday’s 500-lap event.
Kahne discusses his qualifying effort at Martinsville: “I think that I drove our Budweiser Dodge a little too hard into turn one and maybe too easy in turn three. The car actually felt pretty good. I just messed up on my marks a little bit. It didn’t run as fast as it should have, but I still think that our car is pretty fast. The times are so close that the smallest hiccup will cost you a bunch of time. Everyone is on the same playing field and you have to be really consistent every lap.” The following is the starting position of the other beverage-sponsored cars participating in the Martinsville race weekend: - Casey Mears, driver of the No. 07 Jack Daniels Chevrolet, will start sixth
